The possibility of a recount in the all-to-play-for Hampstead and Kilburn seat remains a strong possibility as the bundles of votes pile up in the tensest of counts at Haverstock School.

Conservative candidate Chris Philp appears to be slightly ahead but there are also reports of large bundles of 'red' votes, indicating strong support for Glenda Jackson as she defends the seat for Labour.

Another factor is that votes from Brent are just being counted and these could boost the chances of Liberal Democrat contender Ed Fordham. The part of Brent which has come into the reckoning under new boundary changes was previously in a constituency which elected Sarah Teather as their Lib Dem MP.

The result could still be an hour away as loose votes from Brent have also to be counted.
