World Champion and Olympic Silver medallist triple jumper, Philips Idowu wants people from across Camden to join him in a charity walk for World Mental Health Day on Sunday.

Hackney-born Idowu is setting out to bring awareness for the Get Moving Campaign organised by charities Mind and Rethink

The athlete will lead the walk of members of the public from Kentish Town tube station to Islington’s N1 Centre - 2.5 miles in all.

He is encouraging as many people to get involved as possible and all are welcome.

“I’m really looking forward to taking part in this Sundays walk to mark World Mental Health Day,” he said. “I hope that people from across London will come together to take parting the Time to Get Moving campaign, get active and help raise awareness of mental health problems.”

The walk will start at 10:30am from Kentish Town tube station.

Initial events run by Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust will include a class led by belly dancing sensation and Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist Sophie Mei and many more fun filled events.

Around two thousand people are hoped to be taking part in the day’s fun-filled activities which are aimed at tackling mental health stigma and highlighting the benefits that exercise can have on mental wellbeing.

Also on the same day, the main event of World Mental Health Day is set to take place in Hyde Park.

The highlight of this will be a boxercise class led by former world champion boxing superstar Duke McKenzie.

80,000 people are expected to get involved and take part in hundreds of sporting events across the country where they will not only make a stand against the stigma surrounding mental health but also reap the rewards of exercise for their mental wellbeing.
