The blaze broke out while the Number 31 bus was travelling along Elgin Avenue, Maida Vale on Thursday.
Two fire crews arrived at around 3.30pm to put out the blaze, which eyewitnesses say started in the driver's carriage when the bus's electrics malfunctioned.
Dozens of passengers were evacuated from the burning vehicle. No-one was reported to be injured.
A London fire brigade spokesman said: "We were called at 3.22pm and the incident was over within an hour.
"There were two fire brigades - both from Paddington. No-one was hurt.
