Outgoing chairman of the Hampstead Heath Committee, Jeremy Simons, has planted a tree in Golders Green to mark the end of his tenure.

The silver birch was in recognition of his work managing the open spaces of Hampstead Heath and Queen’s Park. He was chairman for three years and his replacement was elected last month.

Mr Simons said: “I was delighted to have been given the honour of planting a tree in Golders Hill Park. I hope it will thrive and bring joy to the visitors to the park, for generations to come.”

Mr Simons is to be replaced by historian and biographer Virginia Rounding. Ms Rounding, 58, lived on the edge of Hampstead Garden Suburb for seven years and says she has a “strong interest” in the Heath.
