Our Lady of Muswell’s Under-11 boys team have won the annual Haringey six-a-side primary schools football finals, earning the right to represent the borough at the London Youth Games.

OLM are part of Alexandra Park secondary school’s ‘family’ of schools, and they started their journey with a series of competitions against the other primary schools in that group.

Billy Dennis, Jack Addey, Marlon Fordjour, Jack Martin, Saul Wright Thompson, Nicholaus Dryer, Nathan Smith and Morgan Moirandi came out on top, and won the right to represent the Alexandra Park family at the finals.

There they came up against 11 other primary schools, who were all playing for their families – and OLM triumphed again to take the title.

Having battled through the semi-finals in a penalty shoot-out, Our Lady of Muswell went on to face Muswell Hill – who were fighting for the Fortismere family – in the final.

OLM seemed to be on the verge of a heart-breaking defeat as they found themselves a goal down late on, but Addey scored a stunning goal to send the match into extra-time, and then another penalty shoot-out.

It was a particularly fraught finale for goalkeeper Dennis as the majority of his opponents are also his team-mates at the weekends with his club side Alexandra Park East Under-11s – but a fantastic save sealed victory for OLM.

Assistant head teacher Pete O’Shannessy said: “It’s fair to say that, at the moment, they’re the best boys primary school team in the borough – and hopefully they’ll go on to be crowned the best in London next year.”

In a further twist, Rhodes Avenue – who were representing the Alexandra Park family in the girls’ section – also won their title to wrap up a majestic double.

They will join OLM in representing Haringey in the football tournament at the London Youth Games at Crystal Palace in March.
