School groups from Camden were invited to celebrate the NHS’s 70th birthday at UCL Hospital on Euston Road. The event combined the UCL Hospitals NHS Trust’s annual research open day with a ‘NHS 7-Tea Party’.

Students from Camden’s Maria Fidelis school were among those attending, with one student, Eniafelamo Adejuwon, even given the honour of helping to cut the NHS’s birthday cake, as he was born at the hospital.

At the 50 interactive stalls run by researchers, visitors tried their hand at simulated surgery, had a go at resuscitating a dummy patient and saw how many bugs live on their skin.

This is the fifth year UCLH has organised an open day designed to get the community interested and involved in UCLH’s work and research.

Professor Bryan Williams, Director of Research at UCLH, said: “We had a great turnout at the event, and are delighted so many people could join us to celebrate 70 years of the health service, and to find out about all the fantastic research being done at UCLH and UCL.”
