Newsreader Jon Snow took off his trademark tie to join the battle to save his favourite Kentish Town pub.

The local resident is keen for the Torriano to avoid redevelopment.

Spaces UK want to transform the two floors above the Torriano Avenue boozer into flats.

They also hope to put a kitchen in the pub's basement, which was only recently converted into a live music venue at great cost to the landlord.

Although there are no plans for the pub itself, regulars like Mr Snow fear the plans will spell the end for the watering hole.

A protest is promised outside the Town Hall tonight when a planning committee will decide whether to give the plans the green light.

Landlord Suzi Martin said: "It's about time there was a policy in place to protect pubs like the Torriano.

"This place is not only hugely successful as a music venue, and local hub, but it has a lot of history.

"It's over 100 years old and is one of the few remaining community locals.
