MOTHERS from Hampstead and Highgate were able to welcome in the New Year with some new little ones.

At the Royal Free and Whittington hospitals more than a dozen babies were born over Christmas and the New Year.

Kitty Sage of Hillcrest, Highgate, gave birth to her first child, a baby boy weighing 8Ib 6oz, who arrived at 7.30am on Christmas Day. She and her husband Richard, named him Aneurin Joseph Philip Sage.

“Aneurin was due on December 8, so he was 17 days late,” Mrs Sage said. “I was booked in to be induced on Boxing Day and I think that made him get a move on.”

Mrs Sage’s parents, who live in Croydon, visited the hospital at 11am to see their new grandson before returning to her flat to cook Christmas dinner.

She explained: “We’d arranged for my parents to come up and cook Christmas lunch. They came into the hospital at 11am and then they went back to my flat and cooked a goose.

“Richard, Aneurin and I returned at 4pm – just in time for Christmas dinner.”

Meanwhile, in the Royal Free Hospital Bernette Oliver, 36, was celebrating the arrival of her third child, a little boy arrived at 4.40pm on Christmas Day.

“I feel quite blessed,” Ms Oliver told the Ham&High.
