A new exhibition of work from a well-known Hampstead artist has gone on show at Burgh House.

The collection of paintings by Malvina Cheek, who has lived in Hampstead for more than 60 years, was opened by broadcaster Piers Plowright at the venue in New End Square.

The exhibition, titled Retrospective: Scenes from a Hampstead Life, includes early work from Ms Cheek’s days as a student at the Royal College of Art, in Kensington.

It traces Ms Cheek’s development as a painter from the dark blues and greens of her Belsize Avenue paintings, through to the rich red palette of her most recent works completed in 2005.

The exhibition, which also includes a selection of her graphic work, including book illustrations, will be on display until March 9.
