Filmmakers have said the borough played its part in the joke brilliantly as comedy film David Brent: Life on the Road arrives at cinemas.

Rock venues The Barfly, Dingwalls and the Electric Ballroom all feature in the film, starring Hampstead’s Ricky Gervais, and sequences were shot on Hampstead Heath.

Gervais’ iconic creation, David Brent, is also seen getting a tattoo at Flamin’ Eight in Castle Road.

Opening next Friday, the film shows Brent, now a travelling salesman, cashing in his pension to fund a band tour.

Karen Everett, director at FilmFixer, which manages the film office at Camden Council, said: “Camden plays its part in the joke brilliantly.”

And she continued: “It makes perfect sense that Camden’s seminal rock venues played

the locations for David Brent’s awful gigs and painful attempts at a rock lifestyle.

“And Camden was really happy to play along.”
