THE history of glass is the subject of a new course at Highgate Literary and Scientific Institution.

Tutor John Shepherd is an international authority on glass and the course, which has just started, runs until June 12.

It covers the earliest origins of glass from jewellery to modern mass production, and focuses on glass-blowing - which was invented more than 2,000 years ago.

The sessions are being held on Thursdays in Highgate village from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Visit www.hlsi.net or call 020-8340 3343 for more information about the course.
