SUPERMARKET chain Sainsbury's are rumoured to have taken over the lease of the old Woolworths on Finchley Road.
Earlier this month the administrators of Woolies, the historic chain of shops, assigned the lease of the store to Sainsbury's, which runs a big store in the O2 centre just up the road.
According to Swiss Cottage councillor Andrew Marshall the store is not set to open itself in the premises but will rent it out to someone else.
He said: "As soon as we know who is going to occupy the site we'll let people know. Within reason any retailer would be better for the shopping area than an empty store.
