A new music venue in Camden Town will help the area “rediscover its rightful place as a hotbed for independent musicians”, its owners believe.

The 400-capacity nightspot, The Camden Assembly, will launch next month in Chalk Farm Road.

It was previously Barfly.

It will be run by the team behind live music venues XOYO, Phonox, The Jazz Café and this year’s inaugural Sunfall festival,

A statement from owners The Columbo Group said: “After The Jazz Café’s relaunch in May, it becomes the second live music venue to open in the space of months as Camden rediscovers its rightful place as a hot-bed for independent musicians and creative thinkers.”

And it said the venue will sit “at the epicentre” of Camden’s resurgence.

Acts booked to appear in early weeks include rising grime artist AJ Tracey, DJ duo The 2 Bears and soul singer Andrew Ashong

The group said: “We want this venue not to be a monument to the glory days of indie, or the glory days of Camden, or the glory days of The Barfly. Instead we hope it will be a forwardthinking reflection of the eclectic tastes young people have today, something Camden and London can be proud of.”
