Green-fingered neighbours got their hands dirty to create a new orchard in a community park.

Young and old turned out in Childs Hill Park on Sunday to plant 15 trees for the community to enjoy as part of the Helping Britain Blossom charity initiative.

The group planted two almond, two Morello cherry, two pear, two quince and seven apple trees in the park off Granville Road, Childs Hill.

Orchard leader Ingrid Posen, chairman of Friends of Childs Hill Park, said: “The community group has been working together since the summer of 2013 to help transform the Childs Hill Park, and we’re really excited to have officially added an orchard to that space too.

“We are very grateful to our wonderful group of volunteers and Helping Britain Blossom.”
