A report into Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s mental health has concluded the jailed Hampstead mum is suffering from post-traumatic-stress disorder brought on by her horrific ordeal.

The findings add Nazanin – who on Thursday is set to endure her 600th day in an Iranian prison – complains of a sudden panic and fear of suffocation when she is in darkness or if asked to go into a confined space, like a lift.

The report states Nazanin, 38, is suffering from advanced depression, with long bouts of insomnia and is traumatised by the separation from her three-year-old daughter Gabriella.

Her husband, Richard Ratcliffe, however has today expressed relief as she was given the all-clear from a Cancer scare.

He said his wife underwent another ultrasound at Iranmehr Hospital on Saturday where a specialist told the media charity worker lumps in her breasts have responded to medication and the pain suggests they are unlikely to be cancerous.

She was told to avoid stress as far as possible in prison, where she is serving five years for plotting against the Iranian regime following her arrest at Tehran airport attempting to return home from a family visit.

Mr Ratcliffe added his wife had a psychiatrist appointment cancelled for “administrative reasons” last week, a meeting Nazanin was looking forward to as a kind of comfort. But when her father was denied permission to book a session this week.

Nazanin, who faces a second trial on the same charges, has told her husband how much she hates seeing herself on Iranian TV news which continues to feature her and claim she is a spy. Her guards tell her the attention is a good sign with fellow inmates praying for her release.

Speaking to Mr Ratcliffe, Nazanin said: “It is torture to keep hearing these lies. I get very agitated by the press attention in Iran. I feel like I don’t have the capacity to do this anymore. I do not have the strength. I cannot wait for this turmoil to end. I don’t want to be in the news. I just want to be a normal person again. All this time away from my baby and for what?”

Nazanin has tried to calm herself amid the recent Iranian media storm by making a brightly coloured pinafore for Gabriella’s Christmas present – made of wool left behind by released prisoners – in the hope it will bring her the same luck. She is also knitting a small grey jumper in hopes she and Richard will have a second child.
