South Hampstead care provider SweetTree Home Care Services will once again be supporting National Dementia Carers’ Day which takes place on Sunday 9 September.
On the day, SweetTree – who co-founded the occasion – will be part of a nationwide effort to recognise the efforts of so-called ‘hidden carers’ who look after those with dementia. The idea this year is for people to share their stories.
Helen Farndon from SweetTree told the Ham&High: “We want it to be an occasion like mother’s or father’s day. It’s about spreading the word, raising awareness, and saying thank you.”
SweetTree nurse Rikki Lorenti added: “The most important thing families can do is to keep talking and ensure they have all the support they need and that is available to them.”
Jeremy Hughes, chief executive of the Alzheimer’s Society, explained why they’re backing the occasion. He said; “It is a great opportunity to recognise the stressful and selfless job of these unsung heroes.”
