A volunteer has scooped a gold award for ten years of ‘tremendous’ service from Met boss Cressida Dick.

Maureen Hajdu received the award in a New Scotland Yard ceremony in recognition of her ten years’ service which began with voluntary work behind the front counter of the now-closed Muswell Hill police station in Fortis Green in 2005.

Mrs Hajdu said: “It has been very rewarding and a huge privilege to work with the Met. I have so much enjoyed working alongside uniformed colleagues who have all accorded me and my fellow volunteers on the front counter every courtesy.”

After the station closed in 2013 Mrs Hajdu took a break from volunteering but returned to man a new police contact point in to Planet Organic in Muswell Hill Road every Saturday afternoon.

Haringey Police’s Insp Kevin Blenkinsopp, who read her award citation, said: “Maureen has been a tremendous support to the police and the community in Haringey for a number of years.

“She has been involved as a volunteer with the police and a number of other worthy organisations since 2005 and we are delighted to award Maureen her 10 year service Gold Award badge,” he added.
