A SPATE of motorcycle thefts across Muswell Hill and Highgate are being treated as linked.

In the most recent, on December 17, a Yamaha R6 was stolen from a 29-year-old man in Grand Avenue, Muswell Hill, who thought he was meeting a prospective buyer.

The thefts have all followed the same trend, where the victims have advertised their vehicles in trade publications or online for sale.

The suspect, acting as a potential buyer, dupes the buyer into allowing him to go alone on a test drive and does not return.

The first incident on October 30 in Stormont Road, Highgate, where a Yamaha YZF R1 motorcycle was stolen.

On November 11, a Yamaha YZF R1 was stolen in Toyne Way, Highgate, and on December 6, a Suzuki GSXR1000 was stolen in Aylmer Road, Highgate.

On December 15, a Yamaha Y2F R1 was stolen in Hanover Road, Tottenham.

Descriptions of the suspects vary but have been male in every case.

DC Dave Williams of Haringey's motor vehicle team said: "The suspect pretends to be interested in purchasing a motorcycle and usually disappears with the bike having taken it on a test drive.

"We strongly urge anyone seeking to sell a vehicle privately to exercise caution, ask the potential buyer to bring their driving licence and insurance certificate, showing they are insured to drive your vehicle, check the details add up, that the picture on the licence is that of the person you are dealing with and keep a note of their name and address."

Anyone with information should call Haringey's motor vehicle team on 020-8354 0893 or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
