A MOTORIST had a lucky escape in Dartmouth Park when his car burst into flames in the middle of the road.

Dartmouth Park Road was blocked from 9am last Wednesday as fire crews were brought in to tackle the blaze. Witness Paul Mould, from estate agents Benham and Reeves, was walking to work at the time.

"I came around the corner and the flames were almost as high as the houses," he said.

"The car's just a charred shell now. The driver managed to pull some of his belongings out before they were lost - that's all he could do really.
