Having gained results unexpectedly in the tougher games, how very Spurs to go and make a complete dog's dinner of a supposedly easier fixture. That may be a little disrespectful to Fulham, whose home record is very decent, but given our recent run it's reasonable to expect to go over there and think you have a decent chance.

As it was, we were horribly slow out of the blocks, and just as we finally seemed to be waking up Gomes conjured up one of his horribly unfortunate moments to gift Fulham a lead that was never in danger of being relinquished. The calamity set them away, but in truth it was day on which we were out-worked and out-fought from start to finish, and the clanger was a helping hand on the way to what looked fairly inevitable

.Alas though that has seemingly once and for all nailed Gomes' reputation as a disaster area, and it is going to be very, very hard for him to come back from here. There's no doubt the man has great abilities - even after Saturday's howler he treated us to an incredible save - and he was revered at PSV, so he can't be all bad. However, the step up to the Premiership is becoming a nightmare for him and us, so for all our sakes I hope his fortunes turn around quickly

With impeccable timing Sunday sees his predecessor return, and you can be sure the fans will retain some affection for Robbo. Assuming Gomes gets the chance to start again, he'll have to be flawless or you fear the crowd will let their thoughts be known.
