Wisla Krakow 1 Spurs 1 (2-3 agg)

SPURS eased the pressure on beleaguered manager Juande Ramos this afternoon when they drew 1-1 against Wisla Krakow in the Uefa Cup first second leg, writes Patrick Mooney.

Tottenham led 2-1 from the first leg at the Lane and an own goal from Wisla skipper Arkadiusz Glowacki gave the Lilywhites a 3-2 aggregate win - and a place in the group stages.

But Tottenham's hero was goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, who made a string of top-class saves.

Ramos made several changes from the side that lost 2-0 at Portsmouth in the Premier League. The Spaniard handed on-loan striker Fraizer Campbell a debut in a five-man field behind Darren Bent. There were recalls for Luka Modric - his first start in five games - Ledley King, Chris Gunter, Aaron Lennon and Gareth Bale.

The home side dominated most of the first half and Spurs had Gomes to thank for keeping them in the tie in the first 45 minutes. The Brazilian was first tested by Pawel Brozek just before the half mark before making a couple of vital stops in the closing minutes of the half.

First, Gomes denied Radoslaw Sobolewski with a foot after the Wisla player had cut through the middle of the Spurs. Then, the keeper smothered a close-range shot from Junior Diaz after the ball had bounced around the penalty area.

Tottenham started the second half brightly and grabbed the all-important away goal when Glowacki put through his own goal under pressure from the lively Campbell from Gareth Bale's superb cross.

Shortly afterwards, Didier Zokora fired inches wide after bursting through the middle. And Bent also went agonisingly close to a second when he fired just wide after beating his man on the edge of the area.

But Wisla continued to take the game to Spurs and Gomes did well to push a powerful header from Brozek on to a post and away to safety.

The Poles finally equalised eight minutes from time when Brozek raced on to a through ball down the middle and lobbed Gomes.

Wisla piled forward in the closing minutes for the goal to take the tie to extra-time but found Gomes unbeatable. The Brazilian pulled off another great double block in the final minutes, first beating out a De Lima Cleber drive and then smothering Brozek's follow-up header.

Tottenham: Gomes, Gunter, King, Woodgate, Bale, Lennon, Zokora, Jenas, Modric, Campbell, Bent. Subs: Cesar, Bentley, Huddlestone, Giovani, Dawson, O'Hara, Assou-Ekotto.
