A Dartmouth Park bowling club has lodged plans to demolish its outdoor green and tennis courts to make way for eight homes.

Mansfield Bowling Club has been in Croftdown Road for more than 100 years but club officials say they had to shut the outdoor green in 2011 as it struggled to keep pace with repair work and its membership dwindled.

On Wednesday last week the club, which also has a six-rink indoor green, submitted plans to Camden Council to get rid of the outdoor rink and two clay tennis courts used by Kenlyn Lawn Tennis Club and replace them with a leisure centre, a new indoor bowling club and eight four-bedroom homes.

Neighbours have branded the plans “destructive” and are expected to fight the proposals.

Comments on the plans can be submitted via the council’s website until February 22.
