A driver was rushed to a major trauma unit after an accident which closed Archway Road earlier this morning.

The man - who was conscious and breathing when emergency services arrived - had been involved in a collision between his red car and a blue van at the junction of Bishops Road.

Police, ambulance and the fire brigade were called to the scene at about 9.45am. They helped remove the driver, believed to be in his 50s, from his vehicle before he was taken to the major trauma unit at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, with back and neck pain.

However, a London Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics feared the force of the impact may have caused him further injuries.

Road closures remain in place on Archway Road, in both directions, between Muswell Hill Road and Church Road.
