AN unemployed man has been jailed for two years and five months for committing a burglary in Crouch End.

Turget Nejat crept into a first floor flat in Haslemere Road on August 9, through an open window, while the owners were asleep.

They woke up to find the sitting room window was wide open and a laptop, handbag and mobile phone had been stolen.

Nejat, of the Holly Park Estate in Stroud Green, appeared at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday (October 30), where he pleaded guilty to the charge of burglary.

He was jailed for two years and five months.

Haringey burglary squad's Detective Constable Ian Cant said: "Most burglaries tend to be opportunistic, rather than planned. Burglars usually choose houses that have little or no visible security. An open window is an invitation to a burglar.

"The result of this case is a reminder of the importance of keeping doors and windows locked when you leave the room to make it harder for thieves.
