The bandstand in Paddington Recreation Ground may seem a humble spot for the dramatic end to an international music festival, but on Sunday that is exactly what it will become.
It has been selected as London’s flagship venue for the ‘bandstand marathon’, a series of free gigs at hundreds of bandstands across the country which marks the end of the London 2012 festival.
Performers on Sunday include dancers from the YaaAsantawaa Arts Centre and the Church Street Community Singers, as well as Angie A, the Soul Harmony Choir, funky rock from Nathan Watson & The Freakanomics and street dance from The Street Level Crew Dancers and The Butterkush Fam Dance Crew.
The show runs from 1-5.30pm will feature a nationwide synchronised performance of Coldplay’s number one hit Viva La Vida at 2pm, before the band play it in the closing ceremony that evening.
