LOCAL heroes in the community were honoured in the Queen's Birthday list.

Gracia Mary McGrath, 47, is the chief executive of Chance UK and was given the OBE.

The Noel Park resident said: "I am delighted to receive this great honour and I feel that this is as much a recognition of the work of Chance UK as it is of mine."

Lib Dem councillor for Noel Park Fiyaz Mughal, 37, was awarded an OBE. Mr Mughal was recognised in particular for his work as director of Faith Matters.

He said: "I'm truly honoured and humbled by this award for 14 years of work in the voluntary and community sector, and it has been a pleasure to work with so many good people from diverse races, cultures, genders and faiths."

Crouch End resident Barbara Trevorrow Hamnett has received an MBE for her contribution to education. Mrs Trevorrow Hamnett, of Park Avenue North, was formerly the deputy headteacher of the JFS school in Brent.

She said: "I was informed three to four weeks ago and was sworn to secrecy. I was shocked and touched because it must have come from former colleagues."

Katherine Emma Dore was recognised with an OBE for her work at the head of Treehouse, the national charity for autism education. Ms Dore founded the charity, which is based in Muswell Hill, in 1997 and since then Treehouse has become the focal point of care for autistic children within this country. Miss Dore lives in south London.
