The 118-year-old Christmas tree that stood in Trafalgar Square over the festive period has been shredded and turned into woodchips, alongside 37tonnes of tree from Westminster residents.

Trees were collected from 19 collection points across the borough and turned into chipping to be used as compost.

Cllr Ed Argar, Westminster Council’s cabinet member for city management, said: “Recycling is important in Westminster and we are pleased that residents and businesses have used this service extensively again this year.”
