One of Labour’s London mayoral candidates has warned Camden could lose more than 12,000 housing association properties under the Conservatives’ plans to extend the Right to Buy scheme.
Tooting MP Sadiq Khan has compiled figures from the National Housing Federation showing 12,238 housing association properties in Camden would be eligible for sale through the new scheme.
The government is set to expand Margaret Thatcher’s Right to Buy policy – which allows public sector tenants to buy their council homes at a discount – to include those living in housing associations.
Mr Khan will table an amendment to the controversial legislation, backed by more than 15,000 people, requiring the government to build a replacement property before every sale.
