Parents of Laura Edge, the Liberal Democrat candidate in Finchley and Golders Green, say they are proud of their daughter despite the fact that she looks set to have had a disappointing night.
Ms. Edge is expected to come third behind Labour's Alison Moore and the Conservative candidate, Mike Freer, who is the favourite to win.
However, Stuart Edge, 61, a former Liberal Democrat councillor told Ham&High: "I was delighted when Laura said she was going to stand. We need people who are prepared to stand up for what they believe. If people do not feel it is worth putting their views forward then the system is sunk.
Mr. Edge then admitted it could be a disappointing night for his daughter's party nationally. He said: "It is not looking as good as we expected.
