Former Labour leader Neil Kinnock is backing Camden councillor Tulip Siddiq to be the party’s candidate for the Hampstead and Kilburn parliamentary seat.
Lord Kinnock described the Regent’s Park ward councillor as “energetic, conscientious and highly intelligent”, while Labour MP Maria Eagle said she would be a “valuable asset” in Parliament.
Other prospective candidates for the Labour Party’s all-women shortlist to stand for Glenda Jackson’s seat at the next general election include Camden councillor Sally Gimson and Hackney councillor Sophie Linden.
The Labour Party is due to announce its candidate on July 14.
