The signs, carrying the words ‘Proud To Be British & White’ have been taken down by Camden Council.

Holborn and St Pancras MP Sir Keir Starmer took to Twitter to call for abuse to stop, writing: “Stop this abuse: Following increased racist incidents since EUReferendum, local concerns should be reported to communitysafety@camden.gov.uk”

A council spokesman told the Ham&High: “We removed the stickers as quickly as possible.”

A statement from Camden Council said: “There have been reports of hate crime incidents following the EU referendum last Thursday.

“Hate crime is not necessarily physical violence – it may be verbal abuse, graffiti, racist fly-posting or comments online.

“While we want to reassure residents that the number of these incidents occurring in Camden is low, we have received reports of verbal abuse and fly-posting of racist materials in parts of the borough.

“We have taken action in these cases.”
