New Holborn and St Pancras MP Sir Keir Starmer will sit on the prestigious home affairs select committee in parliament.
The former director of public prosecutions was appointed to the committee, chaired by prominent Labour MP Keith Vaz, last week.
The committee examines the expenditure, administration, and policy of the Home Office and its associated public bodies.
It chooses its own subjects of inquiry and seeks written and oral evidence from a wide range of relevant groups and individuals before compiling reports making recommendations to the government.
