Camden Conservatives have slammed the Labour administration over plans to move to fortnightly rubbish collections, accusing it of wasting money on schemes such as painting dog poo pink.

The council plans to save £3million from its waste collection and recycling budget over the next three years and has been consulting residents on its proposals, which include moving to fortnightly general waste collections.

On Monday, Cllr Don Williams criticised the proposals in light of a recent initiative from the council of providing pink spray paint for residents to spray dog waste found in public in order to highlight the problem.

Cllr Williams told full council: “Isn’t the real reason why Camden is cutting the ability to pick up dirty nappies and other stuff that vermin go after because money is being spent in the wrong areas?

“It’s being wasted on painting poo pink instead of picking up waste on a regular basis.”
