Camden Council will look into the possibility of raising extra cash from film companies using locations in the borough.
During a cabinet meeting last week, Cllr Awale Olad, chairman of the culture and environment scrutiny committee, requested that fees be hiked for companies filming in Camden to help offset disruption to residents and businesses caused by camera crews.
Cllr Theo Blackwell, cabinet member for finance, said: “It kind of goes in fits and starts in Camden. I seem to remember about 2005 that Primrose Hill was basically covered in film cameras.
“They did V for Vendetta which was shot on the bridge and in Chalcot Crescent. So there are moments when Camden is really faddish for film companies and everybody lands here.”
Cllr Blackwell added: “Question is, can we make some more money from film crews in Camden that might be used to offset the cuts?”
He said the council would explore the prospect of hiking fees in the next financial year.
