Conservatives go to the polls to choose parliamentary candidate

All registered voters will have the chance to select the candidate and not just Conservative party members - in what is known as a “primary election”.

The vote will be held at Hampstead Synagogue in Dennington Park Road, West Hampstead, in a bid to give the candidate a “greater mandate”. The meeting starts at 7.30pm and all candidates will answer questions from the floor.

Alex Burghart, 35, is a director of policy at the centre for social justice. He lives with his wife in Archway.

“I would use my campaigning skills to fight for our police services, my involvement in education to get more good school places, my social justice work to help more people into employment, and my experience of working in government to stand up for local people.”

Seema Kennedy, 38, is a director of a property company. She lives in St Albans with her husband and three children.

“I would put the same energy into standing up for everyone in Hampstead and Kilburn as I have in my life as a volunteer, businesswoman and mother. I would use my campaigning experience to fight on those issues which most matter here – cost of living, crime and inappropriate development.”

Simon Marcus, 40, works on free schools for City Hall and is a councillor for Hampstead Town. He lives in Hampstead.

“If I had the chance to be our MP I could build on my work as a councillor in Hampstead Town, fighting to keep police stations in the area, helping to start new schools and helping to keep local facilities like The Armoury gym open. On local and national issues I would listen to and work for the people I live amongst.”
