Bank of England governor Mark Carney said he was “honoured” to receive his British citizenship at a ceremony in Camden on Wednesday morning.
The Canadian born central bank chief was one of several residents who Camden mayor Jenny Headlam-Wells confirmed their citizenship.
Mr Carney has lived in Camden throughout his time in the UK. He first moved to West Hampstead, when he was appointed in 2013 and is now believed to live in Swiss Cottage.
The 53-year-old is set to stand down as governor in 2020.
He said: “I was very honoured to have become a British citizen today with the mayor of Camden and new British citizens from 26 different nationalities. “The moving ceremony reminded me how privileged I am to work with outstanding colleagues from 80 nationalities at the Bank of England as we promote the good of the people of the United Kingdom during this important time for our country.”
