CAMDEN residents have gained the right in 2005 to ask the council for information.

From January 1, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, people can request information from a public body, which includes the police and local council.

Some information is exempt and complex inquiries may incur a fee.

So far, five requests have been logged with Camden Council. A list of available publications is available in libraries, by post, at the council's main reception areas and online at www.camden.gov.uk/foi.

Councillor Dermot Greene said:

"The Freedom of Information Act has obviously set Camden Council a few tough challenges, but it will also help us to become a more open and accountable authority."
