WITH just hours left of the campaign, the candidates to be Hornsey and Wood Green's next MP are still hot on the election trail.

And all indications point to a huge turnout, they say.

The Broadway checked in with some of the candidates just four hours before polls close to see how they had spent the day and what their gut feeling was about tonight's result at Alexandra Palace.

Incumbent MP and Liberal Democrat Lynne Featherstone - who betting website Paddy Power are claiming is a 1/18 favourite to maintain her seat - was still out and about rallying support.

"It's just work, work, work, work and hope for success," she said.

Nearest rival according to the bookies is Labour hopeful Karen Jennings, at 6/1.

Speaking about her hectic day, she said: "It has been utterly amazing - the sun is shining and from the contacts we have made over the last six to eight months people are coming out to vote for us.

"And they are coming out in a better proportion than the average vote - it's boding very, very well."

Conservative candidate Richard Merrin said he had acquired quite a sun tan as he spent the day out and about on the election trail.

His betting odds currently sit at 66/1.

"We've just been getting people from their homes and getting people out and leafleting and ringing and ringing, the usual shenanigans," he said.

"It's incredibly intense at this stage - we are at the final hurdle now."

Candidate for the Green Party Pete McAskie said the turnout looked "sensational" - bookies Paddy Power placed him as an outsider at 125/1.

"I really don't know how it's going to go at this point, we will have to wait until the count - that's when we will find everything out," he said.

"I'm feeling fatalistic now - it's almost all in the pot now. We are still working but we will see what happens.

"The work is done and we will see what comes out of it."
