Controversial Baby P social services boss will advise government on child safeguarding
Miss Shoesmith – who was fired by former education minister Ed Balls following the scandal surrounding the death of Baby P – has controversially been picked by ministers to give evidence to an education committee next week.
She is one of five experts picked to appear during the one-day inquiry into child safeguarding.
The decision has caused outrage amongst several Labour MPs, but Conservative chairman of the education committee Graham Stuart said: “Our job is to take evidence from people, whether they’re popular or not.”
Earlier this month, it was revealed that Miss Shoesmith is to take her legal fight over the decision to sack her without compensation to the Court of Appeal.
