St Albans City defender James Kaloczi returned to Wingate & Finchley on a two-month loan deal and immediately helped the Blues to their first win in five games as they beat Canvey Island 2-0 at home in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Kaloczi spent a month with W&F at the start of the season and agreed a second loan spell on Friday, going on to score his second goal for the club the following day.

Rob Laney gave the hosts the lead in the 38th minute, heading home from David Knight’s quick, intelligent free kick – and Kaloczi also headed in from another Knight cross in the second half to secure the three points, leaving the Blues sixth in the table. They visit Leiston on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Wingate’s Under-18 manager Andy Stacey will come up against his son Teddy, who captains the Wealdstone youth side, after the teams were drawn against each other in the quarter-finals of the Middlesex County FA Ritson Under-18 Cup. The date is yet to be arranged.

Andy Stacey said: “To come up against my son’s team makes it all the more exciting. I might have to ground him for that night though!”
