Six year old Camden schoolgirl Lily Conlan has been shortlisted for a prestigious campaigning award for her work to promote deaf awareness.

After starring in a video for charity Auditory Verbal, along with other fundraising, Lily has been shortlisted for this year’s Community Spirit prize, which is voted on by the public, at the Signature Awards.

Lily, who became profoundly deaf because of a genetic condition, had cochlear implant surgery a year ago which means she can hear some sounds again and is able to learn new words.

Run by charity Signature, the awards honour people and groups “who are going above and beyond to improve access for deaf people”.

Lily’s mum Angela, who runs deafness awareness initiative Hear Now and Always, was thrilled.

She said: “It’s incredible. She’s done so well – she’s just a six year old and she’s on a shortlist with companies like Specsavers. I’m so proud of her. And we’re excited about the event – we’ll be off to Newcastle!”

Members of the public can vote for Lily in the Community Spirit award category on the Signature Awards website.
