WORLD famous opera soprano Lesley Garrett helped raise 17,500 for elderly hospital patients when she headlined the Whittington Hospital charity concert on Tuesday.

Ms Garrett, who lives in Muswell Hill, performed in aid of the hospital’s elderly care appeal alongside the all-girl classical singing quartet All Angels and Eschoir, a male voice choir.

Actor David Delve was MC at the event, which was held at Kings Place concert hall in King’s Cross, while other performers included pianist Stephen King and flautist Ann Miller.

The appeal is raising money to move, equip and expand the day hospital for elderly people.

It currently caters for 1,500 patients a year but the plan is to move it from the sixth floor to ground level – increasing numbers by 30 per cent.
