BEN McPARTLAND REPORTS: Finchley and Golders Green Labour candidate Alison Moore admits it will be a bitter blow to lose the seat previously held by Rudi Vis since 1997. Mr Vis recently announced in a moving statement that he was suffering from cancer.

At tonight's count Ms Moore, leader of the Labour group on Barnet Council, said 'It will be difficult to relinquish the seat. It was a heck of a coup to win it in '97. The Tories thought they had it back in 2005 and I was very proud of that election victory as I was Rudi's election agent. Yes, I'll be very disappointed.'

She pointed to factors outside her control, including significant boundary changes.

'A whole mix of issues, clearly including the boundary changes, had an impact and the situation nationally is always an influence.'
