DRINKERS have been banned from sitting outside all day and all of the night at a famous Fortis Green boozer.

Planning chiefs have turned down an application from the new owners of the Kinks' favourite watering hole, the Clissold Arms, to turn a car park into a pub garden after residents complained it would ruin their Waterloo sunsets.

The decision follows a massive campaign from people living around the pub who bombarded Haringey Council with objections to the scheme.

Malcolm Matthews from Orchard Court, which backs on to the car park, said: "I'm delighted with the decision, it will make a hell of a lot of difference. It's a small victory for local people."

Enterprise Inns is in the process of renovating the pub where Dave and Ray Davies played their first ever gig in 1963.

Although it already has a large garden at the back the company hoped to create a more informal area at the side, with trees, shrubs and outdoor heaters. But more than 100 residents signed a petition against the plan, claiming it would lead to sleepless nights and anti-social behaviour.

Fortis Green councillor Martin Newton said: "With the granting of longer licensing hours to licensed premises the noise implications of pub gardens on nearby neighbours must always be carefully considered.
