A KENTISH Town headteacher is fighting plans to open an off-licence opposite his school gates.

My Shop, opposite Acland Burghley school in Fortess Road, was hoping to receive the green light to sell booze from Camden councillors last night.

But headteacher Michael Shew joined police in objecting.

He said: "The majority of students leaving the school pass directly in front of this shop making it a completely inappropriate location for the sale of alcohol."

Licensing officer Sgt Bob Dear said: "The premises is in an area where there is high level of alcohol-related anti-social behaviour and street drinking, with youth crime a particular problem, and where there is a large residential population close by."
