A Kentish Town music venue's controversial application to stage events until the early hours has been rejected by Camden Council.

The HMV Forum in Highgate Road applied to run shows until 6am on six chosen days throughout the year.

Residents were furious about the proposals. They would have meant sleepless nights once a month since the venue already has a licence to hold events until 4am on six days throughout the year.

The Forum did change its application at a council meeting on Tuesday - saying it would only need its current six days extended until 6am rather than six extra days. The licence was still refused.

Kentish Town councillor Ralph Scott said: "This is a good result for local residents and it sends a clear message that Kentish Town is not going to become another Camden Town. We want to see the residential character of the area preserved.
