Kate Moss, Paul Weller, Damian Lewis, Jemma Kidd and Sadie Frost are just some of the celebrities who have given their support to the display organised by the Sir Hubert von Herkomer Arts Foundation, which runs after-school art classes for children in deprived areas.

Photographer and founder of the foundation, Debbi Clark, has gathered a selection of never-before-seen celebrity photographs to show alongside works by children from Holy Trinity and Saint Silas Primary School in Hartland Road, Camden Town.

Funds from the sale of the portraits and limited prints will be donated to the charity, which was set up in response to the London riots in 2011 to provide artistic inspiration for youngsters.

The launch of the exhibition was held on Wednesday at the Strand Gallery.

It was attended by children who created self-portraits as well as some of the celebrities featured – including Primrose Hill fashion designer Sadie Frost and Paul Weller.

Ms Clark said: “The kids have been beyond excited and couldn’t wait for this. It gives them the opportunity to explore art and do something they might not otherwise have access to, and hopefully will inspire some of them to take up art in the future.”

The name of the foundation was inspired by the portraitist Sir Hubert von Herkomer, famous for depicting the lives of the poor through his art.

As part of its charitable work, teachers and arts professionals are asked to run a series of ten-week courses at after-school clubs including oil painting, digital photography, drama, ballet and graphic design. It also provides art materials and organises excursions for youngsters to art galleries.

Ms Clark said the foundation is in desperate need of more funding.
