It is home to countless animals from swans to bats and even the odd wallaby, but now creatures of a more prehistoric nature are coming to Hampstead Heath.
Three large metal dinosaurs sculpted by famed artists Jake and Dinos Chapman, called The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, are arriving on the Heath next month.
The installation, approved by a City of London Committee on Monday, will be the largest display of public art on the Heath since Giancario Neri’s towering table and chair, The Writer, delighted visitors on the slopes of Parliament Hill in 2005.
The Chapman Brothers’ dinosaurs were originally planned for Parliament Hill too, but Heath bosses have now decided to put them in Golders Hill Park, where they will remain for 12 months as long as planning permission is granted.
The works were produced in 2007 and previously stood outside the Gherkin building in the City of London.
The tallest, a Tyrannosaurus rex, stands more than 22 feet high.
