Arsene Wenger has become the longest serving manager in Arsenal's history.

Today (Thursday) is his 4,749th in charge of the club - overtaking the reign of George Allison, who was manager from June 1934 to May 1947.

Wenger has won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and taken Arsenal to their only Champions League final in his 13 years with the club.

Gael Clichy led the plaudits for his boss. He said: "The passion he puts into the game shows and at training he is the first to arrive and the last to leave. For me he is one of the best managers in Europe.

"He is really human. He brought a lot of players in like Patrick Vieira, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry - I could be speaking all night naming the players he brought in."

Wenger's first match as Arsenal manager was a 2-0 win at Blackburn Rovers on October 12, 1996.

In total, he has won 288 of his 492 league games upto and including last Saturday's 1-0 win at Fulham, drawing 126 and losing 78.

He has also led to the club to 49 wins in 70 FA Cup ties, drawing 12 and losing just nine. The 2-0 win over Olympiakos on Tuesday night was Arsenal's 59th in the competition under the Frenchman.
