THE Hampstead Garden Suburb Institute has appointed a new principal this month. Joy Solomon has previously worked at the Further Education College, where she rose to be a director and was responsible for adult education. She succeeds Fay Naylor who retired during the summer.
The Institute provides learning opportunities on 600 courses in East Finchley, Muswell Hill and Hampstead Garden Suburb.
"It is a real privilege to be appointed principal of the Institute," she said. "Changes in the emphasis of government funding have caused a substantial general downturn in adult education. Quality institutes such as ours must look in new directions to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.
